move-top

'Move to top' feature is a kind of promotion. You can allow users to move their ads to the top of the list. When a user clicks the "move to top" button current advert date is used in ordering and the ad is moved to the top of the list as a new one.

Let's see the list of displayed ads, where the "Family apartment" advert is displayed using "Move to top" feature:

How to enable the "move to top" feature

To use this feature you have to set two parameters:

  • in global options set "Prom. 'move to top' to 'yes' and set normal price and price in points for using this promotion (you can enter 0 to make it free)

move to top feature

  • in Views options set Default ordering to 'Add date including promotions'

Default ordering move to top

'Move on top' might be confused with 'First on list' promotion but this two are separate promotions and they work somewhat different.

During adding adverts when you will select promotion 'first on the list' then advert is marked as featured.

Then on adverts list when we have sorting for example by name, on the top are shown all featured adverts sorted by name and after those rest of standard adverts sorted by name.

The same situation is when we have sorting by date (or date including promotions) we will have situation like this:

  1. advert1 - 16-10-2013(created date) - 16-10-2013(ordering date) - featured
  2. advert2 - 15-10-2013(created date) - 15-10-2013(ordering date) - featured
  3. advert3 - 14-10-2013(created date) - 14-10-2013(ordering date) - featured
  4. advert4 - 16-10-2013(created date) - 16-10-2013(ordering date)
  5. advert5 - 15-10-2013(created date) - 15-10-2013(ordering date)
  6. advert6 - 14-10-2013(created date) - 14-10-2013(ordering date)
  7. advert7 - 13-10-2013(created date) - 13-10-2013(ordering date)

Advert 4 is newer than advert 3 but advert 3 have promotion 'first on the list'.

When we have enabled sorting by 'add date including promotions' then sorting is made by the second column. Ordering date is automatically copied from creation date when the user is adding advert.

But when we are using promotion 'move to top' then ordering date is changed to current.

So using it on advert 3 we will have this situation:

  1. advert3 - 14-10-2013(created date) - 17-10-2013(ordering date) - featured
  2. advert1 - 16-10-2013(created date) - 16-10-2013(ordering date) - featured
  3. advert2 - 15-10-2013(created date) - 15-10-2013(ordering date) - featured
  4. advert4 - 16-10-2013(created date) - 16-10-2013(ordering date)
  5. advert5 - 15-10-2013(created date) - 15-10-2013(ordering date)
  6. advert6 - 14-10-2013(created date) - 14-10-2013(ordering date)
  7. advert7 - 13-10-2013(created date) - 13-10-2013(ordering date)

and it will be first but when we will use it on advert 6 then this ad will be also first but after featured adverts:

  1. advert3 - 14-10-2013(created date) - 17-10-2013(ordering date) - featured
  2. advert1 - 16-10-2013(created date) - 16-10-2013(ordering date) - featured
  3. advert2 - 15-10-2013(created date) - 15-10-2013(ordering date) - featured
  4. advert6 - 14-10-2013(created date) - 17-10-2013(ordering date)
  5. advert4 - 16-10-2013(created date) - 16-10-2013(ordering date)
  6. advert5 - 15-10-2013(created date) - 15-10-2013(ordering date)
  7. advert7 - 13-10-2013(created date) - 13-10-2013(ordering date)
