DJ-Extensions and Joomla 4

Joomla 4 will be released today - 17th August 2021 on Joomla's 16th birthday!

First of all, we would like to thank the whole Joomla team and volunteers who worked for almost four years on the next "big" Joomla version.

The release date of this version was announced quite unexpectedly (and unfortunately, it falls during the holiday season in Poland); anyway, we are glad that it has finally happened, and we hope that this fact will increase the interest in this great CMS.

We hope that Joomla will get back on track and its share in the CMS market will increase - the latest version has an excellent chance to do so. But to the point.

DJ-Extensions way for Joomla 4

Our goal is to make the migration to Joomla 4 as easy as possible with our extensions. Therefore, we do everything to make our extensions work simultaneously on Joomla 3 and Joomla 4 to smooth the migration between versions.

Joomla 4 introduces a modified control panel, which may seem difficult at first, but in reality, after some time and "getting used to" it, many things become intuitive and not a problem. However, it requires us to do some extra work in adapting extensions, updating documentation, and working out how to migrate to the latest Joomla version safely. All that takes time, but we try to do this work as reliably as possible to work on the new platform as pleasant as possible.

Should I already be thinking about upgrading to Joomla 4?

In short, no.

We recommend that you wait a few months until the possible bugs are detected and fixed, which will only appear when Joomla 4 is tested on a larger scale - this is a standard approach with any new software.

So if it is not necessary, you should continue using Joomla 3, which we will support for a long time, so there is no reason to rush.

Our team is always happy to help - if you have questions about Joomla 4, or if you want to build a new website on the latest Joomla version - please get in touch with us, and we will answer your questions.

Extensions ready for Joomla 4

Some of our extensions are already compatible with Joomla 4. Although we are aware that, just like with Joomla itself, some functions may not work 100% correctly - therefore, we encourage you to report any problems to us - we will fix them first.

Joomla 3Joomla 4

As for the other extensions - we are currently focusing on DJ-Classifieds and DJ-Catalog2 - these extensions require the most work due to their complexity. We want to prepare them to migrate to Joomla 4 from Joomla 3 would be painless for our users.

Joomla 4 articles

Over the past months, we have been publishing articles on Joomla 4 that will help you learn about some of the new features:

Joomla Templates and Joomla 4

We are also planning to upgrade templates from Joomla-Monster with our extensions to Joomla 4 - this requires rewriting our framework (EF4 -> EF5) to work with Joomla 4 and working out an easy upgrade method from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4.

For this reason, we will first focus on extensions to make them compatible with Joomla 4 and to migrate them smoothly with the templates.
